ONE YEAR AND COUNTING: RELATIVITY HELPS SF LEGAL GIVE LAW FIRMS AND CORPORATIONS "CPR"
At SF Legal, we pride ourselves on bringing "CPR" to our clients - that is, breathing new life into imperfect e-discovery solutions. In this case, the "C" in CPR is cost control: we deliver at least 30% lower total-cost solutions than any of our competition. "P" is process management: our outstanding project management team and unique process reporting enable us to give our clients that responsive, superior service that keeps them coming back. And "R" is risk management: by controlling and documenting the data trail from initial collection through to production, we help our clients sleep better at night.
One year ago, we scoured the US for the right web-hosting partner to fit into our "CPR" value proposition. We found what has become the fastest-growing web-hosting platform in the US. Relativity has been a perfect partnership for us, enabling our clients to achieve cost and time efficient reviews. We have numerous large-scale reviews currently in progress.
Getting more done; doing things once; having a well-managed process and team; having the right level of capacity at the ready - what incremental value does this add in a large-scale review? Gut reactions from experienced professionals suggests 50-100%! And none of this takes into account the time lost and the dollar costs associated with potential errors that can be associated with multiple sources. Here are five reasons why SF Legal's "Relativity Evangelist" Dave Swider believes in the product.
FROM THE TRENCHES: THREE LARGE-SCALE DATA REVIEWS
The best way to experience the SF Legal Relativity difference is to give us a try. We also invite you to read about, or talk to, people who already have. Call us at 415-392-2900 or email Christian anytime if you'd like to talk with some of our current customers. This month we've detailed three Real-Time Solutions:
- SF Legal "consolidates and conquers" to significantly reduce hourly expenditures, provide greater insight into documents. Our client inherited 25 Summation databases, along with a selection of other data sources (including a few hundred DVDs and CDs of images and native files). Finding specific documents required repetitive searches across the separate databases, turning what should have been a simple task into one that required a significant time investment.
- SF Legal Uses Clearwell to Reduce 1.2 Million Documents to 200,000; Relativity to Review 50,000 Documents in Five Days. Clearwell's transparent search abilities allowed the reviewers to understand how search terms affected the returned document set. With such insight into the produced document set, they generated their responsive document set right out of Clearwell. Relativity allowed the review team to work through their collection in an ordered manner, releasing productions to opposing counsel as they completed batches. They were able to generate their first production in only a few days, with absolute certainty that documents would not be produced twice. Relativity allowed them to monitor how rapidly they worked through batches. This insight into manpower requirements kept them on track and on budget.
- SF Legal saves client 2,250 review days using Relativity and Equivio. An SFL client had 2.5 million of their client's documents to review prior to production. Searches were run by SFL in Relativity to identify documents containing potentially privileged content. By searching for email domains, specific terms and names, a sub-set of 250,000 documents was identified for privilege review. The team also used Equivio to further speed review. Using well-considered search terms and criteria, the team was able to remove 90% of the document collection from their review.
IT'S OUR PEOPLE AND SUPPORT, AS MUCH AS THE SOFTWARE

Support is a key component to a great document review. We continue to drive efficiencies for our clients by expanding our internal support team and structure.
- We've recently added Robert Beauparlant to our support team. He was most recently the Bay Area Head of Litigation Support for Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, and brings a high level of technical competence and law firm user perspective to our team.
- Prior to beginning a review, we take the time to discuss the review team's strategy. This helps us build tools right into the database that will keep reviewers working efficiently. In prior cases, we've built in QC steps for redacted documents, workflow queues for difficult document determinations and audit steps to ensure no privileged documents are produced.
- We continue to customize Relativity for our clients. We've recently added SF Legal-generated help and training documents directly to the Relativity interface. These documents and video provide help users need, when they need it.
A Google Group (kCura Relativity Users Group) administered by Dave Swider, SF Legal's Relativity Evangelist, is an open forum for any Relativity reviewer to ask questions and garner feedback from fellow users in a collegial environment.
BE ONE OF THE FIRST TO SEE RELATIVITY'S NEW FEATURES

PRINCIPALS' CORNER:
FEEDBACK - THE BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS
"Hello from Christian (CEO) and Ciaran (President), SF Legal's two principals. We're both originally from the other side of the pond (England and Ireland, respectively) and met at Stanford Business School. After graduating, we scoured the US for exciting trends and found e-discovery. We bought SF Legal with investor capital and spent the last four years building the e-discovery solutions business. As we both have strategy consulting backgrounds, the culture at SF Legal is that of a data-driven boutique consulting firm. We pride ourselves on listening intently to the customer, identifying the right solution, and then delivering relentlessly on our promises. Both of us spend a great deal of time working directly with SF Legal customers and gathering feedback to drive new service and product developments. If you're considering working with SF Legal on future projects, rest assured that:
- We truly understand the stakes in each and every case and will operate lock-step with your team
- We'll personally be involved in your projects to provide oversight and guidance.
We've told you about us. Now we'd like to hear more about you. We welcome any and all feedback. Or better yet, invite us to spend 30 minutes with you to listen to your challenges and find out how we can help. Email us at Christian or Ciaran or call 415-392-2900."
