SFL Data Solutions - Electronic Discovery Edition, April 2010

Network Operations Center Provides Secure Data Management
Litigation requires corporations to hand over some of their most sensitive electronically stored information to outside counsel and e-discovery providers. Our corporate clients rightfully demand that their data is managed by providers whose infrastructure and information security standards match their own. Our recent name change in part reflects our investment in people, processes and infrastructure to exceed this demand. All of our client data is hosted in a secure, SAS 70 Level II certified network operations center. This collocation facility is housed within a Hosting.com data center in downtown San Francisco, Calif., just minutes away from our headquarters at 100 California Street. “Secure” is an understatement for the standards of our 24/7 monitored facility. Our systems are located within a cage enclosure that is secured for access via biometric hand scan by only five authorized SFL Data personnel. The enclosure is located within a seismically hardened building constructed on bedrock. Redundant electrical/fire suppression and environmental control systems protect the physical equipment and data. Our infrastructure, security and process standards are set for the management of data from the world’s most secure corporations. It’s one of the ways we mitigate the risk involved in managing sensitive ESI to ensure that our clients - both inside and outside counsel - can sleep better at night.

Hot Topic: Are You Driving an F150 or a Cobra?
EDD Blog Online recently featured a post that encouraged readers to stop and take a look under the figurative EDD hood. Jason’s article caught our attention. He points out that the e-discovery software market is saturated with products that draw upon much of the same basic source code. The similarities make it difficult for attorneys to see past price and branding to the true points of differentiation. As software “agnostics”, our team invests a lot of time researching new and old tools to find the best available tools on the market. At this stage of e-discovery software development, user interface design and customizability are the key factors that distinguish the best tools from the rest. At SFL Data, we’re big fans of a few tools - Clearwell, LAW and Relativity - and have selected them not because of their differentiated base code or basic functionality, but because each tool is able to leverage its power in ways that are reliable, easy to use and customizable to meet user demands. Effective software may indeed share much of the same code, just like the Ford F150 pick-up truck and Mustang Cobra have the same basic engine. If you want to win, it makes sense to choose the vehicle that gets you there fastest and smoothest.
