Achieve Higher ROI with Managed Services
Several clients have come to us with e-discovery headaches. For instance, one Fortune 100 corporation had neither the budget nor the infrastructure to realize the benefits of e-discovery software. In another case, a senior attorney on a high profile matter complained of extreme inefficiencies from the lack of support infrastructure for the software his law firm purchased. With the opportunity for efficient technology comes the challenge of driving value from software like Clearwell or Relativity. Here are the top ten reasons law firms and corporations achieve a higher return on investment (ROI) outsourcing the function rather than building it internally:

  Law Firms Corporations
Too costly to employ enough industry experts X X
Impractical to build true end-to-end capability X X
Ramp period to build from standing start is costly
X X
Lack of skills to build effective, repeated process X X
Tough to recruit, train and manage talent X X
Lack of expertise in creating optimal infrastructure X X
Wrong choice of technology and high switching costs X X
Investment "cap" from sponsor(s) and/or lack of ownership   X X
Services not priced or marketed effectively X
Inability to drive firm-wide adoption X

Without the processes, expertise, experience or technical infrastructure to implement new technology, corporations and law firms cannot drive down cost or mitigate risk to optimum levels. The question of how to handle e-discovery lends itself to four options for corporations and law firms. Which one will you choose?

See You at Legal Tech
Are you attending Legal Tech in Los Angeles this week? Our Discovery Solutions Consultant< Dave Swider and others from SFL Data will be there to meet with vendors and clients. Legal Tech is the largest legal technology event of the year and we wouldn’t miss it for the world - especially considering the variety of hands-on information available to both attorneys and litigation support teams for improving law practice management. We meet your law firm needs with the latest and greatest by staying on top of new innovations and industry practices. If you’re going to the show too, let Dave know so we can meet up. If you can’t make it down to LA this week, you can attend Virtual Legal Tech presentations and check out exhibitor’s booths online. We’ll also be blogging and tweeting from the show so you can receive updates and tech highlights.

Optimal Service from Highly Trained Staff We have some smart cookies at SFL Data. They work hard and keep learning to ensure you»re getting the best service possible. Here are a few examples of how our staff continues to expand their knowledge base:

  • There are only two Relativity-Certified Sales Professionals (RCSP) on the entire West Coast. SFL Data’s “Relativity Evangelist,” Dave Swider is one of them. Earning this certification has enhanced Dave’s ability to increase document decisions per hour using search analytics, train reviewers on Relativity best practices, set up web-based hosting platforms capable of digesting millions of documents and discuss sliding-scale pricing for cases of all sizes.

  • Looking at problems from an attorney’s perspective helps us provide you with the best e-discovery solutions. That’s why Michelle Luke, Senior Project Manager, recently attended a Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) conference. She said the most common question of the day was, “Can you recommend a list of e-discovery vendors or tell us how we can find a good one?’” Luckily for attendees, Michelle was happy to tell them how simple e-discovery really is when the right people are working for you.

  • Come to Michelle Luke with a one-of-a-kind issue and she’ll advise you on the best Clearwell custom search tools and production strategy to solve your problem. Michelle recently immersed herself in a three-day Clearwell University training program to learn more about data processing, case creation, tag creation and production management. She earned her certification by tackling problems with creative solutions not traditionally part of the Clearwell function.

Optimal Service from Highly Trained Staff
Our very own Dave Swider participated in “America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride” in honor of his wife, Tina, who was diagnosed with Stage IV Non Hodgkins Lymphoma last year, but is now cancer free. Earlier this month, Dave rode 100 miles around Lake Tahoe as part of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training (TNT) efforts to fund lymphoma, leukemia and myeloma research. Nationally, the team has raised an amazing $6.5 million for the cause. Dave wore the number ten for placing tenth in the U.S.A. in fundraising efforts with $15,600 (he placed first in the Bay Area) and completed the course in six hours, 45 minutes. All San Francisco teams combined raised a total of $250,000. TNT provides training to run or walk marathons and half marathons or participate in hiking adventures, triathlons and cycle events.
